There are, however, some things you can do to improve your chances of joining:

• Register on our forums. You must have a forum account in order to be invited.
• Be active on the server. Though you don’t have to be insanely active, activity does improve your chances.
• Be active on the forums. Posting a lot improves your chances, and may compensate for a lack of server activity too.
• Create an about me page on your forum profile and say hello so we can get to know you better.
• Meet our members. Their opinions of you will be taken into account for your application.
• Let us know you’re interested in joining. Contrary to popular belief, our council members are in fact not capable of reading your mind. Mention you’re interested, just don’t nag council members about it 24/7.
• Respect all our members and guests on the server & forum.

All members and visitors are expected to:

• Act in a mature way and be respectful to others.
• Not swear or use excessive profanity as much as possible.
• Not post adult or illegal material on the forums.
• Not join another group, team, clan or guild in the Jedi Academy, unless specifically approved by the council.
• Not lame in the primary dimension. Laming is defined as attacking someone who has saber down or chat bubble up. Melee up, like saber up, means you may be attacked freely.

Additionally, all members are expected to:

• Not join another group, team, clan or guild in the Jedi Academy, unless specifically approved by the council.

Again, these are not rules but guidelines. For instance, friendly laming, if the lamed person does not mind, is fine.
When it comes to swearing/profanity, please bear in mind that Jedi Academy is a 12+ game. Mild profanity is allowed.
Most importantly, don’t ruin the fun of others where possible.

Privacy policy

It should be noted that our privacy policy is somewhat unlike that of other servers. In a nutshell…

• Normally, a server has a “games.log” file logging everything that is said (including PMs) and all IPs that connect to the server. This file is disabled on the Cosmos server: nothing that is said, and no IPs, are logged.  For full details on this, please see the FAQ.
• No IPs of players on the server will be shared with anyone, anywhere, any time.
• Score and time online (based on your name) are logged by the server tracker. See this list for more info.
• Anything you say on the server may be freely shared by all those receiving the message (to rectify a common misunderstanding, admins can not see your PMs). Think funny quotes, but anywhere else too. Exceptions may be made for sensitive or private information, however.

We do, however, have council members. The difference between council members and “normal” members is the fact that council members are effectively a decision-making organ, deciding over day-to-day things such as recruitment, as well as any ideas or issues that might arise. They are, for all intents and purposes, the leaders of Cosmos.

Q: Do you currently ally with other guilds, clans or communities?
A: No. We currently do not ally with anyone.

Q: What’s with the whole “Community” thing? Aren’t you just a clan/guild?
A: Yup, so we are. Community has a better ring to it, though. Still, it boils down to the same.

Q: Are there any age requirements to join?
A: No. We do, however, value maturity.

Q: Any other requirements, then?
A: See the joining page.

Q: Do you care if I’m a complete newbie who just started playing the game?
A: Nope.

Q: I left my previous clan/guild/community on extremely bad terms. Will this affect my time here?
A: No, it will not. Your attitude & maturity, however, will.

Q: Can I be in any other guild or clan whilst in Cosmos?
A: No, you can not.  You are not allowed to be in other communities, clans, teams, and so forth, but some exceptions might be made for informal base teams, RP communities and the likes. Please contact a council member if you are unsure what the policy for your team/clan is.

Q: What sort of game types do you play?
Any. Though mostly FFA, votes can be called for different game types.

Q: Do you Roleplay?
A: When we feel like it, yes.

Q: Are members expected to wear their tags at all times?
A: No. So long as you do not abuse it (eg normally do have your tag on, at the very least on our server), there are no rules about when to wear your tag.

Q: Do you have a Steam group? an Xfire group?
A: Yup and yup. See also: Cosmos Steam group & Cosmos Xfire group.

Q: What’s with the no logging thing?
A: Unlike many other servers, nothing that happens or is said (be it PM or public chat) on the Cosmos server is logged by the server.

Q: Let’s talk IP logging. What exactly is logged on the server?
A: On the server, your IP is only logged while you are on it. It’s discarded once you disconnect as opposed to it being logged (though an admin might of course remember it). The only case your IP is permanently stored on the server is if you are banned.

Q: What about the website/forum?
A: As with almost all websites, your IP is logged when you visit the website/forum (for error reports, the detection of hacking attempts, etc). If you register on the forum, your IP will also be connected to your user account. Only members of the council can view your IP.

We are a community of gamers, founded on the 28th of January 2010, currently playing  Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.
We’re a casual, laid-back community, with mature members and a very loose structure of ranks. As opposed to focusing on rules or winning, we’re all about simply enjoying the games we play. As such, we regularly host and participate in events, such as matches, a monthly tourney and more.
