Welcome to the Cosmos Gaming Community!

We are a community of gamers, founded on the 28th of January 2010, playing Guildwars and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.
We’re a casual, laid-back community, with mature members and a very loose structure of ranks. As opposed to focusing on rules or winning, we’re all about simply enjoying the games we play. As such, we regularly host and participate in events, from lightsaber-football in Jedi Academy to festivals in Guildwars.

If you are looking to join us, to learn more about us, or to simply hang around with us, feel free to register on our forums or to look around the website.

See you ingame!

FAQ

Here, you will find a quick FAQ about our community. If any of your questions remain unanswered, feel free to ask in our forums!

Q: What’s with the whole “Community” thing? Aren’t you just a clan/guild?
A: Yup, so we are. Community has a better ring to it, though. Still, it boils down to the same.

Q: Are there any age requirements to join?
A: No. We do, however, value maturity.

Q: Any other requirements, then?
A: You are expected to display a reasonable level of activity both ingame and on the forums. You are also expected to be mature, and not cause (too much) unnecessary drama.

Q: How do I join?
A: You can apply at our forums, using our application form. After that, our Officers (leadership) will tell you what to do next. After this, you may or may not be accepted, based on your attitude only.

Q: Do you care if I’m a horrible newbie who just started playing the game?
A: Nope. Skill and knowledge can be taught.

Q: I left my previous clan/guild/community on extremely bad terms. Will this affect my time here?
A: No, it will not.

Q: Can I be in any other guild or clan whilst in Cosmos?
A: No, you can not. In Guildwars, it is impossible to do so. In Jedi Academy, it is disallowed for most clans and guilds. Some exceptions may be made for certain communities or teams; this should be discussed with our Officers.

Q: Do you currently ally with other guilds, clans or communities?
A: No. We currently do not ally with anyone.

Q: What sort of Community are you?
A: In Guildwars, we are Luxon. We do both PvE and PvP. We just do whatever we fancy doing. In Jedi Academy, we mostly do FFA, though we may on occasion switch gametypes too.

Q: Do you Roleplay?
A: When we feel like it. Remember, we’re just here to do what we think is fun, so if we want to RP, we might.

Q: Can I join clans, guilds or communities in games I am not signed up for in Cosmos?
A: Of course. If you have only joined the Jedi Academy division, for instance, you’re free to be in another Guildwars guild, and vice-versa. We also have no control whatsoever over games we have no divisions in.

Our ranks explained in a single image

Whilst everyone who has been accepted into the Cosmos gaming community is considered a full member, some experienced members may also become an Officer, of which the two types – Community and Game-specific – each fulfil a role in the overall running of things. Officers are there to make sure various aspects of the Community run smoothly, and take responsibilty for fixing any issues that arise within the membership. Members cannot apply to become an Officer and are not chosen based on any game-related skill, but rather based on their maturity and leadership ability.
In addition to being either Community or Game-specific, Officers also have a specific role or function to fulfil within the Community. For example, a Community Officer may be the overall Community Leader, or in charge of a technical aspect of running the community, such as server maintenence. A Game Officer may perhaps be the leader of his or her respective game division, or in charge of recruitment for that game. These positions are often very flexible, with members moving between positions depending on the circumstances.

Community Officers
Community Officers, as the name implies, work together to run the entire Community, ensuring the needs of the membership as a whole are met, arranging for the purchase and maintenence of servers and websites and investigating games that the Community may expand to. Community Officers are in charge of appointing (and if necessary, replacing) the various Game Officers, but do not interfere with the running of the seperate game divisions, nor the recruitment of members – though they  do have the power to remove a member who has become disruptive and/or abusive to others from the Community.

Game Officers
The Game officers are in charge of of the day to day running of each Game Division. Game Officers usually only serve as an Officer in one game even if they are a member of multiple divisions, but this is not always the case. Game officers lead the members of their game division and are responsible for recruitment in their game and the moderation of their section of the forums. Game officers are subordinate to the Community Officers in the overall hierarchy of the Community, but this does not make them in any way “less” of a member nor second class, as their job is a vital one, and it is the Game Officers who are directly involved in the running of each game in the Community.
The Game Officers of each division, regardless of their main role, all come together to discuss the recruitment of members into their division as well as to discuss various ideas and issues that may arise.

Members
Finally, by far the largest part of the community consists of “normal” members; individuals who have been accepted into the community. Though they do not hold the responsibility Officers hold, they are in a way the most important part of the community. Members are encouraged to bring forward ideas regarding the community, and officers may hold polls amongst members to gauge their decision and act accordingly.
Membership is the only “rank” in the community, aside from officers, which most members will not become.
In the end, however, Officers are members as well; they simply have slightly more authority and more responsibilities to ensure the survival of the community.

**It should be noted, that visitors are only expected to not lame on the JKA server´s primary dimension. Members and applicants, however, are expected to follow the rules of other servers as well, where possible.
*** Encase you were wondering, “to refrain from” means “not to do” or “to resist the urge to”.

There are several ways you can contribute to the community, outlined below.

  • Be active! Whether you’re a member or not, hang around on the forums, socialize with people, and get to know others. The more active you are, the more active others will become, too.
  • Wanted urgently: In Guildwars, donate gold, items, and so forth to the community. You can share items with other members on the forums, or give money to character “Caelum Nimmiel” for the purchase of a guild hall, and so forth.
  • In Jedi Academy, host events! You’ll have the officers’ full support if you plan to host one, and will be given anything you (reasonably) need to do so.
  • Donate to the community, to cover the costs of the website, Jedi Academy server, and so forth. Donations may be sent over paypal to caelumnimmiel@gmail.com; please note that donations will be used for the good of the entire community, not just a single division, unless specifically requested otherwise. In other words, it’ll be used where it’s most necessary.
  • Wanted urgently: If you have coding skills, particularly knowledge of PHP and MySQL, they are more than welcome. Just contact Caelum for information on what needs doing.
  • If you have Photoshopping skills, they are more than welcome. Just contact Caelum for information on what needs doing.
  • If you are capable of modelling, mapping or skinning in Jedi Academy, feel free to let us know too!
  • If you have any ideas to improve the community, at any time, shout.
  • If you know of any other ways you can contribute, or if you just want to help out with keeping things updated, etc, feel free to let the officers, or Caelum, know.

Most of all though, enjoy your time here!
